Cardamom & Co.

A filter-coffee house whose whole site is built around one job — getting somebody to walk over today. A live brew clock drives the menu, so the page always tells the truth about what is being served.

Cardamom & Co.

A corner filter-coffee house on Cambridge Road. Coffee ground twice a day, brewed by drip, a short list of snacks that go with it.

The brief

Nobody books a table at a coffee shop a week in advance. The one job of this site is to get a person nearby to come in today — so opening hours and directions are hero-level information, not something buried in the footer.

What we built

Deep teal instead of the usual café cream, brass hairlines, and a single vertical rule running down the page that section markers hang off. Six pages: the room, the coffee, the menu, how to find it, and a table booking that writes straight into a database. No card grid, because a card grid is what every café template already looks like.

The detail that does the work

A brass brew clock sits beside the headline showing the real time and which of the three daily services is running. The menu reacts to it: what you can order right now sits at full contrast, what is not being served yet dims and shows the hour it starts. At 9pm the dial reads closed and the main button changes itself from “Book a table” to “Opens 6am tomorrow.”

It runs on your clock, not ours, and it ticks once a minute. It answers the only question a passer-by has before they have to ask it.
